Highlights from 9WERKS’ 25th Anniversary gathering for the Porsche 996 at Heritage Parts Centre
It was a weekend to remember for enthusiasts of the first water-cooled Porsche 911 generation as 9WERKS celebrated 25 years of the Porsche 996 generation.
The weekend began with a virtual roundtable between 9WERKS members and 996 designer Pinky Lai. The hour-long session saw members ask Mr Lai questions on the very car they own, with the affable former Porsche designer, who spent 25 years at the company between 1989 and 2014, sharing many inside stories on how the Porsche 996 was created. Highlights of this exclusive conversation are available for public viewing here.
Then, the following morning, around 70 Porsches descended on Heritage Parts Centre for a special ‘Fried Eggs Anniversary’ cars & coffee gathering dedicated to the 996. Despite the damp conditions, committed fanatics travelled from as far as Derbyshire and Devon for the anniversary 996 celebrations in Sussex.
A 9WERKS-curated display in the courtyard at Heritage Parts Centre highlighted the many different models hailing from the first water-cooled 911 era, beginning with the 996.1 Carrera, right the way through to 996 GT2 and GT3 RS – with the exception of a Turbo S, every single iteration of Porsche 996 was represented, as well as some stellar examples from RUF.
9WERKS would like to thank everybody who took part in the 996 celebrations, including Mr Pinky Lai, the staff at Heritage Parts Centre, as well as those who braved the typically British weather to create a very special atmosphere at ‘Fried Eggs Anniversary’.
