Three new Porsche models to look out for in 2023

9WERKS presents three Porsche sports cars set for release this year

2023 looks set to be a bumper year for Porsche. Not only will the manufacturer be celebrating its 75-year anniversary on 8th June with events worldwide (in a similar vein to its 70th birthday celebrations back in 2018), the iconic Porsche 911 will celebrate an important birthday this year too, while in motorsport, Porsche returns to the top class at Le Mans for the 100th running of the twice-round-the-clock race at La Sarthe. There’s also the 20th anniversary of Le Mans Classic, 50 years of the G-series 911, the induction of the 997 and 987 into Porsche’s Classic programme – oh, and planet earth’s premier Porsche show returns as Laguna Seca opens its doors for Rennsport Reunion 7 in September.

As ever, 9WERKS will be the heart of it all, and members will enjoy exclusive road trips, events, track days and world-leading multi-media content throughout 2023 as we take you closer than ever to Porsche sports cars and the culture and history around them. Just make sure you’ve signed up – for free – to get involved.

Anyway, amongst all that, Porsche will be releasing a raft of new sports cars throughout the year, and 9WERKS has picked out three of the hottest models to look out for.

911 ST
In what will be a birthday present to itself in this 75th anniversary year, the incoming 2023 Porsche 911 ST is perhaps one of the worst-kept secrets in the automotive sphere currently. For more than a year, our spies have brought you numerous pictures of mules in testing around the Nürburgring Nordschleife, while 9WERKS has previously received information the new ST will be rear-wheel drive, have the 4.0-litre, 510hp NA flat six from the 992 GT3 as well as its six-speed Motorsport gearbox, and weigh as little as 1,300kg – with 2,000 models to be made.

Based on the 992 GT3 RS chassis, the ST will be devoid of a fixed rear wing, instead adopting a ‘flat back’ decklid design with an active, adaptive rear wing like the GT3 Touring. A high watermark for the GT department in the 992 era, it’ll be the 911 of the decade, much like the 991 R in the twenty-teens.

60th Anniversary 911
Porsche is never one to miss out on commercial opportunities brought about by notable birthdays and anniversaries, particularly when it comes to its 911. This will be no different for 2023, in what will be the 60th anniversary of the 911.

Following in the footsteps of the 964-based ’30 Jahre’, 996-based ’40 Jahre’ and 991-based ’50 Jahre’ models, the ’60 Jahre’ 992 will feature an array of design trinkets inspired by cars from throughout the history of the 911. Unlike its predecessors though, the ’60 Jahre’ or 60th Anniversary 911 will hail from Porsche Exclusiv Manufaktur’s Heritage Design program, the third of four such cars promised by the end of 2023 (and which has already given us the Heritage Design Edition Targa and Sport Classic).

An Anniversary 911 is one of the most desirable models outside of the GT lineup, and the 60 Jahre will be no different. Expect a GTS-spec engine, rear-wheel drive, and a numbered production run of 1,963 units.

Boxster Spyder RS
Perhaps the most intriguing release of 2023 will be the Boxster Spyder RS. The idea alone would have been inconceivable as recently as five years ago, but the proliferation of Porsche’s mid-engined platform in recent times – culminating in the Cayman GT4 RS in 2022 – means that Porsche has identified demand for a ludicrous drop-top version.

Taking the ever-more popular Boxster Spyder platform and fusing it with engine and running gear from that aforementioned Cayman GT4 RS, Porsche will create a stunning Spyder RS with just under 500hp. This will be the first open-topped Rennsport of the Andreas Preuninger era, and indeed the first drop-top RS to roll out of Porsche’s fabled Motorsport department at Weissach.

And don’t forget…
In theory, 2023 should also be the year we see the next-gen Porsche 992.2 released, featuring hybrid technology on the iconic 911 for the first time. After five years of the 992.1, history dictates we’ll see the 992.2 released towards the end of summer 2023, with first models rolling down the production line in September when Porsche changes to 2024 model-year production.
However, with assembly of the 992.1 dogged by pandemic-related delays and supply issues with Ukrainian-made wiring looms, Porsche may opt to push this back to a 2024 calendar year. As ever, you can expect 9WERKS to be first to deliver any significant updates from Zuffenhausen, so make sure you’ve signed up – for free – to stay on top of all Porsche news as and when it breaks.
