Wednesday Want: 991 Carrera T PDK
Max Newman looks at the Carrera T from a different perspective, while perusing the current selection of 9WERKS Classifieds…
If you’re in the market for a 991 Carrera T you’d be forgiven for mandating the manual gearbox at the very least, potentially 918 buckets if you didn’t need the practicality of folding seats, certainly rear-axle steer for maximum agility, and definitely GT2RS rear and side glass so you could tap it with your knuckle at the local car and coffee meet.
But what if – conversely – you’re actually looking for a really nice 991.2 to use, drive and thoroughly enjoy regularly? And what if you actually wanted a PDK gearbox? You could focus solely on the Carrera S or even the basic Carrera model if you fancied something you could really ‘extend’ on British roads. But why not try a PDK Carrera T?

This particular PDK-equipped example, for sale at Hertfordshire Porsche specialist RPM Technik, is a spectacularly good looking 911. Inside, Porsche’s brilliant 18-way adaptive Sports seats are trimmed in the Carrera T’s retro cool interior package, in its best colour option, and extended leather with deviated stitching complete the cabin. Retro vibes continue outside with the handsome Fuchs-esque optional Carrera Sport wheels, whilst the addition of the SportDesign package and Jet Black Metallic paintwork completes the visual drama.
Significant to the way you enjoy this car on the road are Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with a 10mm lower ride height, as well as the Sport Chrono pack, twin-exit Sports exhaust – enhanced further by less sound deadening; and shorter gear ratios. These are all part of the T’s driver-focused package, further enhanced on this car by the addition of Porsche’s rear-axle steering system (a £1,592 option). The rear-axle steer brings a welcome additional level of agility to the longer wheelbase 991, as seen on the GT cars. The motor here is the blown three litre in its small-turbo 365bhp configuration – which is also to its benefit because it spins up more naturally, with less lag, and delivers a level of performance you can really enjoy on UK roads, instead of always looking over your shoulder.
To complete the picture of a 911 I want to be in everyday, this car also features a heated multifunction steering wheel, Cruise control, Lane change assist, Passenger footwell storage, Smoking package, BOSE stereo, PCM4 with satnav, Apple CarPlay, DAB radio, automatic wipers, automatic dimming mirrors, front axle lift, rear seats, front and rear parking sensors with rear camera; brilliant LED lights with PDLS, and an electric slide and tilt glass sunroof to reduce the sound deadening further still.
This isn’t about buying a 991 Carrera T in case it becomes collectible, it’s about buying one of the most enjoyable and exploitable modern 911’s available, and we think a PDK Carrera T fits the bill perfectly.
