What is a Porsche 356 ‘Notchback’?
9WERKS shows you the history and specs behind a rare Porsche 356 built for only two model years
The 356 is revered globally as Porsche’s predecessor to its iconic 911 sports car. With even the youngest variants now more than 60 years old, these days a 356 is a collector’s car, rarely seen on the road. Some 356s, though, are rarer than others – and our 356 debut on 9WERKS TV is a rare beast indeed… introducing the Porsche 356 ‘Notchback’! Notchbacks make up less than 2% of total Porsche 356 production, having been made in small numbers across just two model years. Here, Tom Atherton of Weissach UK takes us around one such example, to offer some insight into the 356 Notchback, including production numbers, spec, and history.
