    About the seller

Philip Raby began his Porsche journey in magazine publishing. He was involved with the early days of 911 & Porsche World, before going on to launch and edit Total 911, the World’s only magazine dedicated solely to the iconic Porsche 911. He has written several books on Porsche and has been a regular contributor to GT Porsche magazine. Philip Raby Specialist Cars was a natural progression of his passion.

Ollie Barclay joined the team in 2020 as Service Director. He has been a Porsche specialist technician since leaving college and has worked on a vast array of Porsches, from the earliest air cooled 911s, to the latest production model Macans and everything in-between. Ollie keeps things moving in our service centre and looks after the team, ensuring a cheerful and efficient workplace.

This 1998 Porsche 996 Carrera is a real driver-focussed 911. Its rear wheel drive, manual transmission, boasts the Sports Package (M030 lowered suspension and limited-slip differential, hard-backed Sports seats and lightweight two-piece 18-inch SportDesign wheels shod with Pirelli PZero tyres. Plus it's Guards Red!
The interior is all-black and those Sports seats have been beautifully retrimmed in perforated leather with red stitching, with the gearlever gaiter trimmed to match. A modern Pioneer head unit offers Bluetooth connectivity.
The Porsche has had some £17,000 lavished on it recent years, at well-known Porsche specialist, Autofarm. Work of note includes upgraded IMS bearing, all new coil packs, new front coffin arms, new front and rear dampers, four-wheel alignment, new air-conditioning condensers, and much more. The car was last serviced in January 2025. What the car doesn't have, is a service book or much documentation prior to 2017, but the recent history more than makes up for that.
This 996 is huge fun to drive. The engine is keen to rev, while the lowered suspension feels tight, just as it should do, and you can't beat rear-wheel drive! Also, it's rare to find 996s in Guards Red.
Please note that this car, despite all the good stuff mentioned, doesn't quite meet our retail standards so we are selling it privately on behalf of the owner, with no form of warranty. There are a few cosmetic niggles, plus the air-conditioning isn't working, the wheels could ideally do with refurbishment, the front D bushes are perished, and the undertray is missing. Nothing that would distract from enjoying the car and you could gradually work through improving it, which we could help with.
Please get in touch if you'd like to come and see the car and have a drive in it.
