One of the most desirable 911 of all time.

A genuine Supersport Targa doesn’t come along often – and almost never like this.

Supported low miles and superb condition, a great provenance, C16 (UK specification) RHD and factory option M491 – this one is something special.

It is believed that Porsche manufactured just 63 of these wide-bodied Targa for the UK in 1989.

The Turbo Look (M491) was introduced in 1984 as a special-order build, and its success laid the foundation for the Porsche Special Wishes department which is still thriving today. Essentially, the Supersport (formerly referred to as SSE) offers all the visual and mechanical drama of a Turbo, just without the turbocharger.

The M491 option cost £10,000 more than a standard Carrera 3.2 when new, a premium that explains why so few were produced. It brought with it the deep front spoiler, the signature ‘tea-tray’ rear wing, Turbo-spec brakes, uprated suspension, a wider rear track, and 16-inch Fuchs alloys.

It’s the iconic 911 silhouette, the poster on your bedroom wall, the Porsche you dreamed of. Wide turbo arches, the big rear wing, and gleaming red paintwork; it’s enough to make you weak at the knees.

This January 1989 example is finished in Guards Red (L80K), contrasted by a black interior with bold Can Can Red carpets and matching front seat piping — it is bold and it is very beautiful.

Adding further appeal is the M220 limited slip differential, a short shifter for the G50 5-speed ‘box, and the original Blaupunkt Toronto radio cassette.

The car has clearly seen caring ownership (10 keepers in total) with a substantial history folder. It includes 28 MOT certificates, and the service book contains 22 stamps from both main dealers and respected specialists. The most recent service, just 180 miles ago, included new heat exchangers.

It drives exceptionally well; the 3.2 is eager and responsive, with its unmistakeable air cooled soundtrack that comes alive, especially with the roof off. Every journey feels like a special occasion.

Supplied with two keys, original spare wheel, tool roll, jack, full book pack (including service book, driver’s manual, and stereo instructions), and our specialist classic warranty
